Feather Trim
Neatening the long fringe on ears, legs, chest, and tail.
About Feather Trim
Feathering is the long, fine hair on the backs of the legs, the ears, the chest, and the underside of the tail. It's the first part of the coat to pick up burrs and tangles, and the first to look untidy.
We comb the feathering out, trim it back to an even line, and shape it so the dog's outline looks deliberate. On dogs who spend time outdoors, shorter feathering also means noticeably less debris coming into the house.
Who it's for
- Setters, Spaniels, Golden Retrievers, and Border Collies
- Feathering that drags on the ground and collects debris
- Keeping a long coat tidy without cutting it back

* Some coats simply need more time — heavy double coats, dense undercoats, and long silky hair all take extra brushing, drying, and scissoring. These breeds, along with doodles and doodle mixes, are quoted individually based on size, coat condition, and the degree of matting. Call (714) 716-3015 for an exact quote.
Common Questions
Will trimming ruin the feathering?
No — tidying the ends keeps it healthier by removing split and tangled hair. We won't take it short unless you ask.
How often does feathering need doing?
Every one to two full grooms for most dogs, sooner if they're regularly out in long grass.
