Lion Cut
Body clipped short, mane and tail left full — practical and unmistakable.
About Lion Cut
The lion cut takes the body down to a short, even length while leaving the head, neck ruff, and the end of the tail long. It's a dramatic look that also happens to be very practical for hot months and heavy coats.
We clip the body to the length you choose, then blend into the mane so the transition looks intentional rather than abrupt, and shape the tail plume. We'll flag first whether your dog's coat type will regrow well from a short clip.
Who it's for
- Thick-coated dogs struggling with Southern California heat
- Coats too matted to save at length
- Owners who want a longer stretch between grooms

* Some coats simply need more time — heavy double coats, dense undercoats, and long silky hair all take extra brushing, drying, and scissoring. These breeds, along with doodles and doodle mixes, are quoted individually based on size, coat condition, and the degree of matting. Call (714) 716-3015 for an exact quote.
Common Questions
Will the coat grow back the same?
For most single-coated breeds, yes. Double coats can regrow patchy or with a changed texture, and we'll tell you before we start if we think that's a risk.
Does this help with the heat?
For single-coated dogs it can. For double-coated dogs it often doesn't — that coat insulates both ways, and a de-shed usually serves them better.
