About Anal Gland Expression (External)
Dogs have two small scent glands either side of the anus that normally empty on their own. When they don't, the result is scooting, licking, and obvious discomfort. External expression relieves the pressure.
We work externally only, applying gentle pressure through the skin. We do not perform internal expression — that's a veterinary procedure, and doing it routinely can cause the very problem it's meant to solve. If external pressure doesn't clear them, that's a vet visit.

Common Questions
Should this be done at every groom?
No. Only when there are symptoms — expressing healthy glands unnecessarily can make them dependent on it.
What if the glands won't express?
Then they may be impacted or infected, and we'll refer you to your vet rather than force it.
